vs(From the Associated Press) - Brilliant at the beginning and end, and basically silent in between, Gilbert Arenas scored 31 points Tuesday night to lead the Washington Wizards to a 105-98 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers, ending a three-game home losing streak...Elton Brand led Philadelphia with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Reserve guard Earl Boykins scored 18 for Washington, which had lost seven of eight. Butler added 14 points, but captain Antawn Jamison wasn't much of a factor, finishing with only seven points -- he shot 1 for 6 -- and five rebounds.

vs(From the Associated Press) - Gerald Wallace had 29 points and 12 rebounds in his return after missing a game with severe headaches, leading the Charlotte Bobcats to an 88-76 victory over the undermanned Detroit Pistons on Tuesday night to snap a three-game losing streak...The Pistons lost their fifth straight as they again had 52 points a game in street clothes, with Richard Hamilton (hamstring), Tayshaun Prince (back) and Ben Gordon (ankle) sidelined...Rodney Stuckey scored 20 points for Detroit, which shot 38 percent.


vs(By JIMMY GOLEN From the Associated Press) - Pierce shrugged off his shooting slump and scored 16 points in the fourth quarter, including seven straight to put the Boston Celtics ahead for good in a 103-94 victory over the Indiana Pacers on Tuesday night...Kendrick Perkins scored 19 points to go with eight rebounds, and Rasheed Wallace filled in for an ailing Kevin Garnett with nine points and 13 rebounds. Garnett was scratched just before game time with a right thigh bruise, the first game he has missed this season...Troy Murphy had 24 points and a season-high 18 rebounds for Indiana, which lost its fourth straight. Earl Watson scored all 18 of his points in the first half to help the Pacers open a 15-point halftime lead.

vs(By BRIAN MAHONEY From the Associated Press) - Lee rattled in the clinching jumper with 5.5 seconds left, finishing with 18 points and a career high-tying 21 rebounds as the Knicks held on for an 88-81 victory Tuesday night...Al Harrington led the Knicks with 20 points and Wilson Chandler had 16. New York improved to 8-3 this month, clinching its first winning December since going 9-7 in 2004...Derrick Rose scored 22 of his 26 points in the second half for the Bulls, who whittled a 22-point deficit to one in the final 2 minutes. But Lee grabbed an offensive board and made two free throws with 1:25 remaining, then sank a baseline jumper that made it 84-79 as the shot clock was winding down. Luol Deng scored 23 points and Joakim Noah had 10 points and 21 rebounds.

vs(From the Associated Press) - Zach Randolph scored a season-high 33 points and grabbed 18 rebounds, and Memphis withstood Golden State’s strong start to beat the slumping Warriors 121-108 on Tuesday night. Memphis (13-15) has won 12 of 19 after a 1-8 start. The Grizzlies didn’t win their 13th game last season until their 48th game, on Feb. 4...Mayo and Marc Gasol added 22 points apiece as Memphis won its third straight. Rudy Gay had 16 points and Mike Conley finished with 11 points and six assists...Corey Maggette had 25 points and Monta Ellis 23 to lead the Warriors, who shot 85 percent in the first quarter but lost their sixth straight. Chris Hunter and Stephen Curry scored 14 apiece, with Curry adding eight assists and seven rebounds...“Memphis really played well. They put together quite a team,” Golden State coach Don Nelson said. “That’s the way you want your team to play. Coach (Lionel) Hollins has done an outstanding job here putting this team together. He has them playing winning basketball.”

Al Horford(notes) had 16 points and 11 rebounds and Mike Bibby(notes) added 18 points and six assists for the Hawks (20-7), who tied the best start in franchise history...The Hawks tied Dominique Wilkins’ 1986-87 team for the best 27-game start. That team lost to the Detroit Pistons in the Eastern Conference semifinals. This one has loftier goals...Kevin Love(notes) had 15 points and matched a career high with 19 rebounds for the Timberwolves (5-24), who have lost seven games this season by at least 23 points. Al Jefferson(notes) added 17 points and 10 rebounds.


vs(From the Associated Press) - Roy scored 23 points, Aldridge added 19 points and 12 rebounds and the Trail Blazers rallied in the fourth quarter for an 85-81 victory Tuesday night. The win lost some of its luster when starting center Joel Przybilla(notes) became the most recent Portland player to get hurt, injuring his right knee in the first quarter...Portland had come up empty in its last 11 trips to Dallas before the Trail Blazers earned their first road victory over the Mavericks since Jan. 26, 2003. Nowitzki had 27 points and nine rebounds after missing the previous game and a half with a deep cut on his right elbow, and J.J. Barea added 22 points for the Mavericks, who had won six of seven.

vs(From the Associated Press) - Landry matched his career high with 27 points in his first game back after dental surgery, helping the Houston Rockets beat the Los Angeles Clippers 108-99 on Tuesday night...Luis Scola had 19 points for the Rockets, including 11 in the third quarter when Los Angeles made a charge. Landry had 13 in the fourth. “This was a huge game for us,” Scola said. “This is a team that is right behind us and we are going on the road again so we needed it.” Chris Kaman had a career-high 29 points for the Clippers, who haven’t won in Houston since Dec. 23, 2006. Baron Davis added 18...Rockets star Tracy McGrady, working his way into shape after knee surgery, had 10 points and three assists in eight minutes.

vs(By GREG BEACHAM From the Associated Press) - Bryant scored 40 points for the sixth time this season, and the NBA-leading Lakers shook off a rough first half before hanging on for their 16th victory in 17 games, 111-108 over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday night...Pau Gasol(notes) had 15 points and 11 rebounds for the road-weary Lakers, who needed two last-minute free throws apiece from Bryant and Derek Fisher(notes) to win in their return from a five-game road trip...Durant scored 30 points before fouling out for the first time in his three-year NBA career with 1:31 to play, and former UCLA star Westbrook had 21 points and 13 assists for the Thunder.
