By HOWARD FENDRICH From the Associated Press) - Charlie Villanueva and the Detroit Pistons went exactly a month between victories. “Oh, man,” Villanueva said. “It felt like forever.” His 23 points and nine rebounds helped Detroit end a 13-game losing streak by beating the downtrodden and distracted Washington Wizards 99-90 Tuesday night. “Somebody had to win tonight—and we just wanted it to be us,” said Richard Hamilton, who scored 19 points for Detroit. “We knew when we came in tonight, we could only worry about us.” Rodney Stuckey also scored 19 and added a career high-tying 11 assists for Detroit, which lost by 33 points at Chicago on Monday night. A defeat against Washington would have tied the longest single-season losing streak in franchise history. Antawn Jamison led the Wizards with 31 points and 10 rebounds, while Randy Foye—who took over at point guard for Arenas—had 20 points and 10 assists. But Washington shot only 4 for 21 and scored a season-worst 11 points in the second quarter. “We talked about it. We didn’t want to be the team they beat,” said Washington’s Nick Young, 2 for 9 for the game with eight points, starting at shooting guard for the injured Mike Miller. “But both teams were short-handed, and both teams had something to prove tonight.”

By MIKE CRANSTON From the Associated Press) - Jackson scored 16 of his career-high 43 points in the fourth quarter and the Bobcats clamped down on defense after halftime to rally past the Houston Rockets, 102-94...Setting a franchise single-game scoring record and surpassing his previous best scoring night of 42 set nearly six years ago with Atlanta, Jackson made 15-of-22 shots and 10-of-11 free throws while adding eight rebounds. Making up for a subpar night from Gerald Wallace, Jackson keyed Charlotte’s comeback from a 13-point, second-quarter deficit. Boris Diaw added 19 points and seven rebounds, including the clinching three-point play with 50 seconds left...Trevor Ariza scored 19 points and Luis Scola added 18 points and 14 rebounds for the Rockets, who managed 34 points in the second half after getting 34 in the first quarter alone in their fourth loss in five games. “He hurt us. He’s a really good player that can get hot at any time,” Ariza said of Jackson. “Once he got going, we couldn’t find a way to slow him down.”...Aaron Brooks had 11 points and six assists for Houston, but was just 3 of 14 from the field as the Rockets lost their fifth straight road game.

From the Associated Press) - A brief third-quarter evacuation of FedExForum turned out to be the change of pace the Memphis Grizzlies needed. A broken water line in the fire sprinkler system triggered the arena’s alarm system, forcing players, fans and officials outside for approximately 20 minutes. When play resumed, the Grizzlies rallied from a 13-point deficit to beat the Los Angeles Clippers, 104-102 on Tuesday night. Rudy Gay and Marc Gasol each scored 24 points, Zach Randolph added 20, and the Grizzlies snapped the Clippers’ four-game winning streak. The Grizzlies won their sixth straight at home...Davis had 27 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists for the Clippers, who played without starting center Chris Kaman because of a back injury. Starting forward Marcus Camby missed the second half with a stomach virus. Kaman’s replacement, DeAndre Jordan, had a season-high 23 points.

But the Spurs were well aware these weren’t the same defending NBA champions they spent the offseason trying to keep up with...Bryant had 16 points and attempted a season-low 10 field goals before leaving in the third quarter after injuring his back in the first half. He said he’s “pretty sure” he will play Wednesday at Dallas...Andrew Bynum scored 23 points, and Ron Artest had 13 but sprained his right index finger during the game. Lakers coach Phil Jackson said Artest is day-to-day, and said Gasol has set his sights on returning Friday against the Clippers...Tony Parker scored 22 points for the Spurs, who didn’t exactly celebrate the victory afterward despite getting a rare win against a strong opponent. The Lakers are just the fourth winning team San Antonio has beaten this season, but none the caliber of the defending NBA champions. Richard Jefferson, who scored 12 points, said the Lakers’ injuries didn’t dampen the victory since the Spurs saw it as just another win.
