(By MIKE CRANSTON From the Associated Press) - Larry Brown spent Saturday morning watching his 9-year-old grandson play basketball. Final score: 9-8. Later that night, after the Charlotte Bobcats kept setting records in a 125-99 rout of the Phoenix Suns, the boy put things in perspective for just how far his grandfather’s team has come...On a night where the Bobcats (19-19) led by as many as 39 points, set a team record for points in the first quarter (43), first half (74) and reached .500 this late in a season for the first time, Jackson led the way. He scored 29 to surpass 10,000 career points, Gerald Wallace added 29 points and 13 rebounds and the Bobcats won their fourth straight game while extending their franchise-best home winning streak to seven...Jackson toyed with the Suns, who had no energy a night after losing on a buzzer-beater at Atlanta. The only bright spot was Amare Stoudemire, who also reached 10,000 points, finishing with 19. The Suns are just 10-14 after starting 14-3, with losses in 10 of their past 11 road games. Not playing tough defense will do that...The 27-year-old Stoudemire became the youngest player in Suns history to reach 10,000 points on a bucket midway through the third quarter that made it 85-54. He got little help. Grant Hill shot 1 for 4 and had three points in 18 minutes, Steve Nash was 2 for 7 and had five points in 27 minutes, and the Suns failed to reach 100 points for the first time in 13 games. “We’ve played some poor ball,” Hill said. “We’ve got to figure out who we are, who we want to be.”

(By JOSEPH WHITE From the Associated Press) - The Wizards beat the Sacramento Kings 96-86 on Saturday night, one day after their biggest star pleaded guilty to a felony gun charge and less than 24 hours after a deflating, double-overtime loss at Chicago. The victory broke a four-losing streak and gave coach Flip Saunders his 600th career win, usually a significant moment that will end up merely as a footnote in an otherwise tumultuous season...Caron Butler and Antawn Jamison, who both played more than 55 minutes the night before, scored 12 points in a game-ending 13-4 run, closing out a contest that neither team led by more than eight until Butler’s 3-pointer at the final horn. Butler finished with 19 points, and Jamison had 14, leading five players in double figures...Kevin Martin scored 23 points on 6-for-17 shooting, and Tyreke Evans scored 21 for the Kings, who shot 37 percent to lose their third straight and eighth in nine games. Martin was playing his second game after missing 32 with a wrist injury.

(From the Associated Press) - After his eight points in overtime helped Detroit beat New Orleans on Friday night, Stuckey needed treatment for flulike symptoms and dehydration. On Saturday night, he had 20 points in 41 minutes as the Pistons held on to beat the New York Knicks 94-90.“That young man showed some guts tonight,” Chucky Atkins said. “He gave us 41 minutes after he was at the hospital at 3 a.m.”...Detroit, which also got 19 points from Charlie Villanueva, has won three straight after a 13-game losing streak. Chris Wilcox had 14 points and 10 rebounds for Detroit...David Lee narrowly missed a triple-double for the Knicks, finishing with 26 points, 17 rebounds and nine assists. Gallinari added 27 points for New York, but it wasn’t enough to prevent a second straight loss and the fourth in five games. “We had a lack of energy, a lack of focus and a lack of urgency,” said New York coach Mike D’Antoni. “We picked it up, obviously, at the start of the fourth quarter but it was too late. I don’t think we came out with any kind of desire to win.”

(From the Associated Press) - Zach Randolph had 23 points and 15 rebounds, and the Grizzlies beat the San Antonio Spurs 92-86 on Saturday night, setting a standard with their eighth straight home victory...O.J. Mayo scored 19 points and Marc Gasol had 14 for Memphis, which won the second game of a back-to-back for the first time this season. Tim Duncan led the Spurs with 23 points, eight rebounds and five blocks. Roger Mason had 17 points and Keith Bogans added 13 for San Antonio, which lost its second straight...Richard Jefferson, who averages 13 points, had three and was 0 for 6 from the field, the first time he has not recorded a made basket in a game since playing 2 minutes on Jan. 8, 2006, for the New Jersey Nets. “Just a bad game for us that we fought back into, and just couldn’t get over the top,” Duncan said...The Grizzlies seem to be controlling their home court and gaining confidence, beating the Spurs, Dallas Mavericks, Cleveland Cavaliers and other top-level teams. It’s enough confidence to invoke a word many never expected them to use this season. “This is what the playoffs is all about,” Hollins said, “and we can do that—whenever we are going to do it. I’m positive we’re going to do it one time.”

(By JEFF LATZKE From the Associated Press) - Durant scored 36 points on the most efficient shooting night of his career and also pulled down 10 rebounds as the Thunder beat the road-weary Heat 98-80 on Saturday night...Durant went 14 for 18 from the field to finish at 77 percent, the highest mark of his three-year career. He made 13 of his first 14 shots, mostly jumpers, as the Thunder got out to a sizzling start and led by double digits throughout the second half...Michael Beasley matched his career high with 28 points and Wade had 24 points and six assists, breaking Tim Hardaway’s career record for the most assists in a Miami uniform. He needed only five in the game to match Hardaway’s total of 2,867 and got there midway through the third quarter after setting up five dunks...Jeff Green and James Harden each scored 14 points for the Thunder, who shot 59 percent through three quarters before cooling down after the game was out of reach. “It makes the game so much easier when he’s going out there and scoring the ball,” Harden said of Durant. “When the defenses collapse on him, that gets other guys open shots.”

(From the Associated Press) - Miles scored 19 points, Deron Williams had 18, and the Utah Jazz beat the Milwaukee Bucks 112-95 on Saturday night for their season-best fourth win in a row. Miles, who had only scored 14 total points in his last three games and lost his starting spot to Andrei Kirilenko, connected on 8-of-11 shots and scored seven straight points for the Jazz as they pulled away in the third quarter...Mehmet Okur had 15 points and 12 rebounds, while Carlos Boozer added 13 points and 12 boards as Utah stayed undefeated against Eastern Conference opponents at home (9-0). Carlos Delfino scored a career-high 28 points to pace weary Milwaukee. Charlie Bell had 14 points for the Bucks, who fell to 1-4 on their six-game, 10-day road trip. Rookie Brandon Jennings made only one field goal after scoring 25 points Friday in a victory over Golden State...“We came out with no energy,” Bucks center Andrew Bogut said. “Our defense wasn’t too good early. We just didn’t bring it today.”

(From the Associated Press) - LeBron James scored 13 of his 32 points in the fourth quarter, and the Eastern Conference leaders survived a 3-point attempt at the final buzzer by Baron Davis for a 102-101 victory on Saturday night...The Cavs were coming off a 97-96 loss on a 3-pointer at the buzzer by Utah rookie Sundiata Gaines on Thursday—which offset a 20-point fourth quarter by James...Mo Williams had 18 points and reserve guard Delonte West, who didn’t participate in the morning shootaround because of stomach issues, played 29 minutes and finished with 14 points...Rasual Butler tied a career high with 33 points for the banged-up Clippers and Eric Gordon added a season-high 28. Center Chris Kaman missed his fourth straight game because of a sore lower back, and Al Thornton sat out due to a sprained left ankle. The Clippers have lost all four games without Kaman, their leading scorer, who is averaging 20.4 points and 9.4 rebounds and was last week’s Western Conference player of the week. They were outrebounded 32-27, becoming the 16th straight Cleveland opponent to lose the battle of the boards.
