(By JOSEPH WHITE From the Associated Press) - Marion blocked Butler’s shot with 1.9 seconds to play Wednesday night, and the Mavericks opened the second half of their season by avenging a loss from opening night, topping the Wizards 94-93. The win extended Dallas’ streak of victories in one-point games to nine, tied for second longest in NBA history. The Mavericks haven’t lost a one-point game since January 2007, and they’re one squeaker away from the record of 10 set by the St. Louis Hawks in 1959-60...Dirk Nowitzki scored 28 points, Terry added 21, and Jason Kidd had 15 assists for the Mavericks, who again made up for some offensive doldrums with good defensive stops. Marion’s play on Butler was one of nine Dallas blocks to go along with nine steals, helping overcome the fact that the team known for scoring in bunches was kept under 100 points for the sixth straight game...The loss ended a two-game winning streak for the Wizards, who again missed a chance to win three in a row for the first time since April 2008. Randy Foye scored a season-high 26 points, Butler added 20, and Brendan Haywood had 13 points and 18 rebounds for Washington.

(By MIKE CRANSTON From the Associated Press) - Stephen Jackson scored 24 points, Gerald Wallace added 20 points and 10 rebounds, and the Bobcats completed a 6-0 homestand with their most lopsided victory in team history, 104-65 over the listless Heat on Wednesday night. Shutting down a frustrated and foul-plagued Dwyane Wade, the Bobcats (21-19) improved to an NBA-best 9-1 since the start of the new year with ease. They shot a franchise-record 82 percent in the first quarter, led by 27 at halftime and by as many as 41 in the fourth quarter while allowing the fewest points in team history...The Heat (21-20), who had won three of four, gave up fifth place in the East without a fight as they reached the season’s midway point. The 39-point victory topped Charlotte’s 35-point rout of Toronto in November for the largest margin of victory for a 6-year-old franchise that has never seen this kind of success. “I looked at the schedule when Stephen said I’ll take 5-1,” coach Larry Brown said of Jackson’s stated goal for the homestand. “I would have kissed him on the lips for 5-1.”

(By PAUL NEWBERRY From the Associated Press) - Jamal Crawford scored 20 points to lead a strong effort by the reserves, and the Hawks bounced back from a sluggish start to beat the Kings 108-97 on Wednesday night...Joe Johnson scored 17 points for the Hawks, and three other starters were in double figures. But the Atlanta reserves made the difference, outscoring Sacramento’s backups 45-30. “We were struggling and didn’t have much energy at the beginning of the game,” starting center Al Horford said. “Those guys did a good job, especially in the third quarter. They pretty much sealed it for us.”...Tyreke Evans led Sacramento with 24 points, and fellow guard Kevin Martin added 23. But the Kings were dominated on the inside, even after shaking up the lineup to get more bulk down low. Jon Brockman and Donte Green started in place of Hawes and Omri Casspi. “They beat us up in the paint,” coach Paul Westphal said.

(From the Associated Press) - Former 76ers guard Andre Miller and Jerryd Bayless softened the loss of Brandon Roy. With the two-time All-Star sidelined for the second half with a strained right hamstring, the duo scored all but 10 of its combined 42 points in the second half, leading the Portland Trail Blazers to a 98-90 victory over Philadelphia on Wednesday night. Miller had 24 points and Bayless added 14 of his 18 in the fourth quarter...LaMarcus Aldridge scored 23 points for the Trail Blazers. Sixers center Samuel Dalembert arrived at the Wachovia Center at 6:57 p.m. and started. He had been on a two-day, goodwill mission to his native Haiti, which is recovering from a devastating earthquake. He had 15 rebounds and 10 points, his sixth double-double in his past eight games...Averaging 23.4 points, Roy left after scoring 10. He grabbed his right thigh after banking in a 10-footer with 1:02 left in the second quarter and is listed as day-to-day. “This was a sad game for Brandon,” McMillan said. “The other guys stepped up and played well. What we have to do is keep our heads up and let each other play the game.”

(By ANTONIO GONZALEZ From the Associated Press) - Howard had a season-high 32 points and 11 rebounds, and the Magic held off the Indiana Pacers for a 109-98 victory Wednesday night to end a three-game losing streak...Matt Barnes added 16 rebounds, 10 points and six assists to help the streaky Magic build a 29-point first half lead before going cold. Orlando had lost seven of its last nine games, and letting this one slip could have been a catastrophic blow for the defending Eastern Conference champions. “We needed it bad. We needed it really bad,” Barnes said. “It’s just one game, but hopefully we can build on this.”...Granger finished with 25 points, and Troy Murphy had 17 points and 10 rebounds, not nearly enough to help the Pacers avoid their third straight loss...They hadn’t lost three straight in Van Gundy’s 2-plus years as Orlando’s coach until doing it twice this month. They were defeated in four straight— including an ugly loss at Indiana—and followed that with two wins before dropping three in a row. The stretch was capped with a loss at the Los Angeles Lakers in a finals rematch Monday. “Nothing has shaken my belief that we can’t win a championship,” said Magic forward Rashard Lewis, who had 18 points. “I still believe we can reach that goal.”

(By LARRY LAGE From the Associated Press) - Rodney Stuckey scored 27 points and grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds, leading the Detroit Pistons to a 92-86 victory over the Boston Celtics on Wednesday night...Villanueva scored 10 of his 19 points in the fourth quarter, but Wallace wasn’t impressed. “Chuck hit a couple 3s,” Wallace said. “He didn’t do anything extravagant.” Wallace had 16 points on 5-of-13 shooting in the arena, where the once-adored player received a mixed welcome during a special introduction and was booed late in the closely contested game...Paul Pierce and Rajon Rondo each scored 21 points for the Celtics, who have lost three straight for the second time in less than a month. The Celtics are 4-8 since they had a 23-5 record after winning on Christmas at Orlando...“We’re not that team that can turn it on and off,” Wallace said. “Sometimes we think just because we’re the Celtics and we go into a team’s building that they’re going to back down. We’re a good team on paper, but other teams get up for us as a measuring stick.”

(By JON KRAWCZYNSKI From the Associated Press) - Durant had 31 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Thunder to a 94-92 victory over the Timberwolves on Wednesday night. Durant topped 30 for the 13th time in the last 16 games. Jeff Green added 15 points and nine rebounds for the Thunder (24-18), who won just 23 games all of last season and only 20 in Durant’s rookie season in Seattle...Corey Brewer had 25 points, six assists and five steals, and Al Jefferson added 20 points and nine boards for the Timberwolves, who had a chance to tie or take the lead twice in the closing seconds...“They probably have a great chance of making the playoffs this year in the tough Western Conference,” Flynn said. “You look at their story and you want to be like that.”...The Timberwolves were a bit miffed after the game when officials Dick Bavetta, Kevin Fehr and Phil Robinson declined to look at the replay of an out-of-bounds call where Fehr awarded possession to the Thunder with under 13 seconds to go. Replays appeared to show the ball actually deflected off of Green’s ankle. “They’re probably kicking themselves after they looked at it,” said Jefferson, who was directly involved in the play. “Mistakes are made. They’re not perfect. We’re not perfect. You can’t take it personal.”

(From the Associated Press) - Posey made a driving layup with 1.1 seconds left as the New Orleans Hornets beat the Grizzlies 113-111 on Wednesday night. Chris Paul scored 10 of his 21 points in the last 4:20 and had 13 assists as the Hornets rallied from a late nine-point deficit to win it on Posey’s basket. Taking an inbounds pass, he tried to get the ball to Paul, who wasn’t open, so he made the play himself, converting despite being fouled by O.J. Mayo...David West had 21 points and 13 rebounds for the Hornets. Rudy Gay led Memphis with 26 points. Zach Randolph added 25 points and 12 rebounds, but he was limited to a free throw in the final nine minutes. Posey, despite giving up more than 40 pounds to him, was his primary defender in that stretch. “That kind of changed how (Randolph) was able to operate,” Hornets coach Jeff Bower said. “Although it was a size disadvantage, Pose’s experience and his ability just to maintain contact and control with him really was effective.” The Hornets and Grizzlies are both 22-19 at the midpoint of the season, just out of the eighth playoff spots in the Western Conference.

(By COLIN FLY From the Associated Press) - The Bucks went on a 7-0 run just after Bogut fouled out and Milwaukee held on to beat Toronto 113-107 on Wednesday night, overcoming Bosh’s career-high 44 points...Bogut had 27 points and 12 rebounds before picking up his sixth foul on the offensive end when Jarrett Jack slipped in behind him and drew a foul. Moments later, Bosh hit two free throws to cut it to 103-102 before Milwaukee pulled away by pulling in offensive rebounds...It appeared this one would be that close, too, but by the time Bosh scored his career-best 44th point on a dunk with 37 seconds left, the game was no longer in doubt. “It’s a little frustrating,” said Bosh, who can opt out of his contract at the end of the season. “You try as hard as you can, but you still come up short. It seems to be happening a lot this year, but I don’t know what else to do. I’m just going to keep playing.”...Stackhouse, signed Monday, played 17 minutes and finished with three points, five rebounds and four assists. The 15-year veteran probably felt a little old, too, on the defensive end. He was guarding Raptors rookie DeMar DeRozan, who was 6 when Stackhouse made his NBA debut in 1995.

(By BOB BAUM From the Associated Press) - Robin Lopez dunked on twin brother Brook, and Brook dunked on Robin. The two 7-footers barely spoke to each other in their scrappy first head-to-head meeting as NBA starters Wednesday night. When it was over, Brook’s New Jersey Nets were losers—again—118-94 to the Phoenix Suns. Brook had 26 points and 13 rebounds for New Jersey. Robin scored 20, establishing a career high for the second time in the two games since he became a starter...Jason Richardson, coming off the bench for the second game in a row, scored 15 of his 26 points in the fourth quarter to help the Suns finally put away the Nets, who fell to 0-17 against the West...“It’s tough,” Richardson said. “My whole career I’ve been a starter, besides probably the first four or five games of my rookie season. It’s just a different adjustment. You’ve got to get yourself going. When you come in, it’s kind of hard because you’ve been sitting on the bench. You’ve got to find a ways of scoring to just get involved in the game.” Amare Stoudemire scored 27 for Phoenix on 10-of-15 shooting. Steve Nash added 12 points and 15 assists for the Suns, who were coming off an 0-4 road trip and happy to welcome the Nets, now 3-38, to town.

(By PAUL J. WEBER From the Associated Press) - Carlos Boozer scored 31 points and 13 rebounds, and Andrei Kirilenko added 26 points as the Jazz beat the Spurs for a fourth and final time this regular season, 105-98 on Wednesday night. “We’re proud of ourselves,” Boozer said. “They’re a championship team. We’ve never done that in the history, since I’ve been here. It’s been a long time since we swept them. Hopefully we can build on this.”...Manu Ginobili scored 22 points for the Spurs, who had a 25-0 run but couldn’t prevail in a game of wild swings. The Jazz split a two-game road swing after losing to Denver on Sunday. Utah has won five of six. The Jazz also deprived Tim Duncan from joining the 20,000-point club, holding the perennial All-Star to 14 points—leaving him at 19,999...Tony Parker scored 10 of his 20 points in the fourth, but Boozer had eight down the stretch to keep the Spurs at bay. “We beat them a lot over the years,” Parker said. “I think, you know, this year they had our number.” Boozer picked up his 25th double-double of the season. Deron Williams also had a double-double, getting 18 points and 10 assists. Williams also didn’t turn the ball over.

(From the Associated Press) - Marcus Camby had the advantage over Joakim Noah on Wednesday night, outrebounding him 25-15 and helping the Los Angeles Clippers beat the Chicago Bulls 104-97. Camby’s total was just two off his career high, which he recorded against the Bulls on Dec. 17, 2008, at United Center...Baron Davis scored 11 of his 23 points in the final 3:52, Kaman had 20 points and eight boards, and Al Thornton added 17 points for the Clippers, who have won eight of their last nine home games and have held opponents under 100 points in 17 of their 19 victories overall. Derrick Rose led Chicago with 23 points, Luol Deng had 19 points and 10 rebounds, and Tyrus Thomas scored 18 points before fouling out in the final seconds...Camby reached the 20-rebound mark for the 37th time in his career with 5:22 left in the third quarter, tipping a missed 3-pointer by Kirk Hinrich over to Rasual Butler, who assisted on a fast-break dunk by Davis that gave the Clippers a 65-58 lead. Camby has four 20-rebound games this season, matching his total from 2008-09...Kaman, playing his second game after missing the previous four because of a sore lower back, has scored at least 20 points in 14 of his last 15 games. In his six previous NBA seasons, the 7-foot center had never scored 20 in three consecutive games...Hinrich played 36 minutes, finishing with nine points and five assists.

(From the Associated Press) - Billups matched his career high with 37 points, including 10 in overtime, and Denver beat the Golden State Warriors 123-118 on Wednesday night for its fourth straight victory...Billups scored the Nuggets’ first eight points of the extra period, then went scoreless for nearly two minutes before he and Carmelo Anthony each made two free throws in the final 25 seconds to seal the win for Denver. In the six games since returning from the groin injury, Billups is averaging 26.3 points and Denver is 5-1...Anthony scored 23 points, including two clinching free throws with 12.5 seconds left to help the Nuggets (27-14) win for just the second time in nine road games. Monta Ellis had 39 points and 10 assists, while Corey Maggette added 33 points and nine rebounds for Golden State (12-28), which lost for the fourth time in five games. “They’re full strength, we were not and we’re still in these kind of games,” Golden State’s Stephen Curry said. “It’s tough, you give all that effort … and you have it in your hands.”...Denver, which is just 9-11 on the road this season, maintained its two-game lead over Portland in the Northwest Division. “We’ve been losing these games,” Denver coach George Karl said. “The truth of the matter is we still find mistakes and ways that hurt ourselves, but tonight we figured out enough to win it.”
