(From the Associated Press) - Jose Barea kept finding unimpeded paths on his drives to the basket, and two things became clear. The Dallas Mavericks couldn’t be stopped, and the New York Knicks didn’t seem interested in proving otherwise. Dallas put on a shooting clinic that crushed the Knicks’ spirits, ignoring the absence of two starters and rolling to the biggest win in franchise history with a 128-78 victory Sunday...Drew Gooden stepped into the lineup with 15 points and 18 rebounds, Dirk Nowitzki and Jason Terry each scored 20 points, and the Mavericks beat the Knicks for the eighth straight time. Dallas shot 58 percent from the field, was 12 of 22 from beyond the arc and 16 of 17 from the foul line...The Mavericks led by as much as 53 and outscored the Knicks 70-31 over the middle two quarters on the way to bettering their 149-104 victory over Golden State on Jan. 15, 1985. Barea replaced point guard Jason Kidd in the lineup and scored 11 points, and rookie Rodrique Beaubois backed him up with 13...Barea had at least two hardly contested layups in the third quarter as the Knicks appeared to simply stop trying. It was an embarrassing effort lowlighted when Jared Jeffries botched a layup on the break and the ball was batted off his head out of bounds on the rebound...Kidd left the team following Friday’s 92-81 loss in Philadelphia to return to Dallas, with owner Mark Cuban saying it was for a family reason. Erick Dampier was inactive with a left knee injury but was easily replaced by Gooden, who badly outplayed Knicks All-Star hopeful David Lee. Lee finished with 11 points on 5-of-16 shooting and grabbed 14 rebounds as the Knicks lost for the sixth time in eight games. It was the Knicks’ worst home loss, and trailed only their 162-100 loss at Syracuse on Dec. 25, 1960, for most lopsided in franchise history. “We’re a better team than this,” said Jeffries, who had 14 points to lead the team in scoring for the first time in his four seasons in New York. “We’ve got to come out, give effort and have a little fight. We just didn’t have it.”

(From the Associated Press) - The Clippers beat the Wizards 92-78 Sunday to snap an eight-game road losing streak and pick up their 20th win, one more than last season’s total. “It just shows you we’re a better team than we were last year,” said Clippers guard Baron Davis, who had 11 points and 11 assists. “It just means that we still have a chance to have a great season, a winning season, and that’s the most important thing.” Los Angeles (20-23) had six players in double figures and moved the ball around, especially at the start. The Clippers had 11 assists on 13 field goals in the first quarter, and finished with 26 assists on 37 baskets in the game. Chris Kaman led Los Angeles with 20 points, Rasual Butler had 14 and Marcus Camby scored 12 with 19 rebounds...“It feels really good,” said forward Al Thornton, who had 10 points. “We’re improving, we’re healthy, we’re playing together, and our chemistry is better. Our goal is to be .500 by the All-Star break. I think it’s attainable.”...Antawn Jamison was one of the few bright spots for Washington, scoring 20 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Brendan Haywood added 18 points and 12 rebounds...Los Angeles took the lead in the game’s opening minutes and never relinquished it, although the momentum swung back and forth as the teams traded long runs in the second and third quarters. The Clippers led 71-68 going into the final quarter, and held Washington to 3 of 16 from the field in the fourth. “We played good in spurts tonight, and at the end we played good enough to win,” Kaman said.

(From the Associated Press) - Even Hedo Turkoglu was surprised to find himself heading to the free throw line with a chance to beat the defending NBA champions. A driving Turkoglu drew a foul from Pau Gasol, then hit both free throws with 1.2 seconds left as the Toronto Raptors beat the Los Angeles Lakers 106-105 on Sunday night...Andrea Bargnani scored 22 points, Chris Bosh and Jarrett Jack each had 18 and Marco Belinelli added 15 for the Raptors, who have won four of six overall and nine of 10 at home. “Huge win, not only because it is against the Lakers, but we are continuing to play well at home,” Bosh said. DeMar DeRozan scored 10 points and Bosh had 13 rebounds for his 32nd double-double, tying him with Orlando’s Dwight Howard for the NBA lead. Kobe Bryant missed a last-second jump shot and fell one assist shy of his first triple-double of the season, scoring 27 points and grabbing career-high 16 rebounds. Bryant, who shot 11 for 24, has 16 career triple-doubles...Jordan Farmar, who scored 17 points, praised Bryant’s efforts but said the Lakers can’t rely on last-second heroics. “He’s the best finisher in the game, that’s what he does,” Farmar said. “He lives for those moments. We’re happy to have him in those situations, we just don’t want to put him there too much.” Gasol scored 22 points for the Lakers and Andrew Bynum had 21.
