(From the Associated Press) - Dealing with a three-game losing streak, and struggling against a troubled team, Kevin Garnett and the Boston Celtics turned to their defense to pull out a victory. The Washington Wizards thought the Celtics got some extra help from the referees. Garnett’s 19 points led six Celtics in double figures, and Boston limited Washington to 2-for-18 shooting in the fourth quarter en route to a 99-88 victory over the Wizards on Monday night...Wizards co-captain Antawn Jamison was whistled for five fouls in the fourth quarter alone on an all-around rough night that started with his left knee feeling badly during warmups. He scored only eight points—13 below his average — and shot 2 for 17 on field goals, 0 for 9 in the second half. He made 4 of 6 free throws...Rajon Rondo had 17 points and 12 assists for Boston. Caron Butler led Washington with 20 points and 11 rebounds. It looked a bit and sounded a lot as though it were a home game for Boston: Plenty of green jerseys and hats dotted the sellout crowd of 20,173, and the loudest cheers followed dunks by the Celtics. It’s been a trying season for the last-place Wizards, what with all the losing that began long before three-time All-Star point guard Gilbert Arenas was suspended for bringing guns into the locker room and joking about it...“Even though their record is dismal, they still have guys who can put the ball in the basket,” Garnett said. “They have guys who are experienced. It wasn’t like it was going to be an easy night.”

(From the Associated Press) - Milwaukee’s first 10 shots were all off the mark. Good thing, or else the Bucks would have made a long night even worse for the fast-fading Miami Heat. Andrew Bogut had 22 points and 11 rebounds, Carlos Delfino finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds and the Bucks beat Miami for the second time in three nights, 97-81 Monday to climb within two games of the Heat for the Eastern Conference’s final playoff spot...Charlie Bell and Hakim Warrick each scored 12 for the Bucks, who outscored Miami 54-27 over the final 19 1/2 minutes of the first half to take control. Dwyane Wade led the Heat with 23 points, including single-handedly scoring the first 11 of the game. From there, the Heat went shockingly cold, setting season-worsts by shooting 17.6 percent in the first quarter and 27.5 percent in the half. Miami finished shooting 36.4 percent, its third-worst effort of the season...Michael Beasley scored 16 and Udonis Haslem finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds for Miami, which has lost four of its past five and plays only one more home game in the next three weeks. “I think we’re going to bounce back,” Beasley said. “We’ve got a tough road trip, but like all year, we respond well in times like this.”

Lester Hudson had 13 points for Memphis, and Marc Gasol finished with 11 points and 13 rebounds for Memphis. While Bryant got the franchise record for scoring, the loss prevented Lakers coach Phil Jackson from passing Pat Riley as the winningest coach in regular-season games for Los Angeles. The two are tied at 533...Memphis got an unexpected offensive boost from Hudson, the rookie shooting guard who was picked up Jan. 8 off waivers from the Celtics. Hudson had 11 points—his career high—in the second quarter as Memphis extended the lead to 11 before carrying a 52-50 lead into the half as the Lakers outscored Memphis 11-2 to close the half.
