NBA Daily Results

vs(From the Associated Press) - LeBron James was in street clothes. Shaquille O’Neal was nowhere to be found, and Antawn Jamison was in the locker room icing his sore knee. If they had lost, the Cleveland Cavaliers had plenty of excuses. They didn’t have to use one. Mo Williams made two free throws with 9 seconds left and Delonte West made the kind of plays down the stretch reserved for James as the Cavs won for the first time in three seasons without their superstar, beating the San Antonio Spurs 97-95 on Monday night...“We had a great opportunity. Not many teams can come here and win,” said Spurs guard Manu Ginobili, who scored a season-high 38. “LeBron wasn’t playing, Jamison didn’t play the second half and Shaq wasn’t there. We blew a big one.” Williams finished with 17 points for the Cavs, who were playing their second straight game without the injured James. The NBA’s reigning MVP is nursing a tender right ankle as well as other bumps and bruises and Cleveland coach Mike Brown is taking advantage of a lull in Cleveland’s schedule to get him rest. West had 16 points and made a key steal in the final minute as Cleveland became the first team to reach 50 wins this season...Jamison scored 17, Jawad Williams 13 and J.J. Hickson 12, including two big free throws with 1:05 left that put the Cavs ahead 91-90. West added six rebounds, five assists and three steals. George Hill started for Parker and scored 23. Tim Duncan had 13 points for the Spurs, who had their winning streak stopped at four.

vs(From the Associated Press) - Upon further review, the Atlanta Hawks still can’t beat the New York Knicks. The Knicks beat the Hawks for the third time this season, holding on for a 99-98 victory Monday night when video replay showed Al Horford’s basket came after the buzzer. Wilson Chandler blocked Josh Smith’s drive to the hoop with 1.7 seconds to play and the ball bounced out to Horford in the lane. Referees originally ruled his short jumper good, but replay clearly showed the light was on above the backboard with the ball still in Horford’s hands...Danilo Gallinari scored 27 points and David Lee had 19 points and 13 rebounds for the Knicks (22-41), who won for just the third time in 15 games and temporarily avoided a franchise-record ninth straight losing season...Smith had 25 points, 10 rebounds and six assists for the Hawks, who have lost two straight following a four-game winning streak. Johnson scored 22 points and Horford finished with 18 points and 12 boards...Al Harrington scored 14 points and Douglas added 11 for the Knicks, who bounced back from a humiliating loss to New Jersey on Saturday by going 10 of 15 from behind the arc. They did it without Tracy McGrady, who was resting because of general soreness. He’ll probably be back sometime on the Knicks’ five-game road trip starting Wednesday at San Antonio while the Big East has Madison Square Garden for its conference tournament.

vs(From the Associated Press) - A visit from the team with the worst record in the NBA helped end Memphis’ home skid. But the Grizzlies almost gave it away on Monday night. Mike Conley and Rudy Gay had 21 points each, and Marc Gasol added 19 points and 13 rebounds and Memphis withstood a second-half rally to defeat New Jersey 107-101, snapping an eight-game home losing streak...Memphis got help from DeMarre Carroll and Sam Young, who scored 10 points each, ending the Nets’ three-game road winning streak. Courtney Lee scored a career-high 30 points to lead New Jersey, while Devin Harris added 28. Reserve Terrence Williams finished with 14, and Brook Lopez scored 10 points. Memphis played the game without leading scorer and rebounder Zach Randolph, who sat out with a stiff lower back. Despite Randolph’s absence, Memphis outrebounded New Jersey 52-45, including 10 by Gay...The Nets were getting strong play from guards Lee and Harris, but little from their front line in the first half. Lee had 17 points at the half, hitting 8 of his 11 shots, while Harris had 15. Lopez was the only frontline starter to score for the Nets, scoring three points. Meanwhile, Gasol was dominating inside for Memphis, while Conley was providing help from the perimeter. The Grizzlies pushed the lead to 21 by shooting close to 60 percent in the half. Gasol led Memphis with 16 in the half, while Conley had 14. “It was rough,” Lopez said. “There wasn’t much I could do defensively against Marc (Gasol).”

vs(From the Associated Press) - Just when Dallas needed it most, Shawn Marion returned to the high-scoring form that has been absent all season. That’s been the story of this remarkable run for the Mavericks. Marion had a season-high 29 points and 14 rebounds and the Mavericks stretched the league’s longest active winning streak to 12 straight games with a 125-112 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday night...Dirk Nowitzki scored 24 points and Caron Butler had 23 for Dallas, which has flourished since acquiring Butler and Brendan Haywood from the Washington Wizards at the trade deadline. The Mavericks (44-21) haven’t lost since Feb. 16 at Oklahoma City and have climbed into second place in the Western Conference, not far behind the Los Angeles Lakers (46-18). Al Jefferson had 36 points and 13 rebounds for Minnesota in his return from a two-game suspension because of a DWI arrest. But the Timberwolves committed 26 turnovers and lost their sixth straight and 12th in the last 13 games. Wolves rookie point guard Jonny Flynn had eight of those turnovers and the Mavs turned all those mistakes into 32 points. “A lot of it was just careless mistakes,” Jefferson said. “We just didn’t take care of the ball. We’ve just been kind of struggling with that all year.”...Haywood did not play for the second straight game because of a tight lower back and Erick Dampier has been out 12 games with a finger injury, so the Mavericks have played more zone defense to make up for the lack of a big man in the middle. “It’s been a true team,” Carlisle said. “Somebody’s down a little, somebody else picks him up. Guys are competitive. Guys have stuck together, cheering for each other in the games. When you get on a roll like this, those kinds of things have got to happen.”

vs(From the Associated Press) - Darren Collison hoped to one day turn in the type of performances that All-Stars Chris Paul and Steve Nash have become known for during their distinguished careers. He didn’t necessarily think it would happen in his rookie year. Collison had 16 points and a career-high 20 assists, and the New Orleans Hornets snapped a four-game losing streak with a 135-131 victory over the Golden State Warriors on Monday night. Collison’s assists total tied Phoenix’s Nash for the most in an NBA game this season and was one short of his teammate Paul’s franchise record...In a meeting of teams on four-game skids, something had to give. Neither team played much defense, which made for a thrilling, high-scoring, back-and-forth contest to the end. Both teams surpassed 10 3s in the game, with the Warriors tying a season high with 13 on 25 attempts and the Hornets going 10 of 22. Golden State needed one more 3 to tie it in the final seconds, but C.J. Watson’s attempt hit the top of the backboard and New Orleans’ James Posey secured the rebound and made a free throw to seal it...Marcus Thornton and David West each scored 28 points for the Hornets, who shot 59 percent (54 of 92) and had six players in double figures. Anthony Morrow made all six 3-pointers he attempted and had 28 points for Golden State. Rookie Reggie Williams, a recent callup from the NBA’s development league, also scored 28 points, a career high for him...Golden State also shot 59 percent (50 of 85) and had seven players in double figures. Corey Maggette and Devean George each scored 18; Watson and Stephen Curry each scored 12; and Chris Hunter had 10 points. Peja Stojakovic scored 16 points for New Orleans, all in the first three quarters before he left with a right groin strain. Emeka Okafor had 22 points and 11 rebounds for New Orleans, while Morris Peterson scored 12 points, all on his four 3-pointers.
