Talk n Text continued to rally behind team owner Manny V. Pangilinan and the Tropang Texters continued to get going in the PBA Fiesta Conference.

Maintaining they wanted to bring back smile on Pangilinan’s face, the Texters made it three in a row with a 95-85 whipping of the Barako Energy Coffee Masters at the Araneta Coliseum Friday night.

Earlier in the day, Pangilinan tendered his irrevocable resignation as chairman of the Ateneo Board of Trustees, deeply hurt by criticisms he got on a recent controversial speech.

Members of the Ateneo team also showed up at the Big Dome Friday night to show support to their No. 1 patron.

With Pangilinan on his usual seat behind the Talk n Text bench, the Texters played heads-up game, overpowering the Coffee Masters for a fourth win in six games overall.

The Coffee Masters reeled to a fifth straight loss after winning their opening game versus the Sta. Lucia Realtors.

Probably because of frustration, Sam Monroe committed a flagrant infraction on Mark Yee, causing his ejection with 47.1 seconds left in the third quarter.

Barako was down by 22, 75-53, when it lost Monroe.

With coach Chot Reyes opting to give import Shawn Daniels early rest, Talk n Text saw a big chunk of a 23-point spread go away.

And this just prompted the TnT coach to field back Daniels in the last three minutes of play.

“Obviously it’s a nice win but I am really disappointed about the inconsistency of our defense. We have to be able to find that consistency all throughout,” said Reyes.

“That kind of bad habit dampens my satisfaction over this win,” Reyes added.

The Texters came out smoking and opened double-digit spreads right in the opening quarter.

Macmac Cardona led TnT in their hot start and the prolific forward went on to finish with a game-high 17 points.

Daniels wound up with 16 rebounds, 14 points and five blocks as against Monroe’s 17 points and five rebounds. (SB)
