Yap Also Victorious in PBA Weekly Honors Race

(From GMA News)

James Yap, Noynoy Aquino's walking billboard in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), also chalked up a small victory just a day after his brother-in-law is assured of leading the country in the next six years.

The former most valuable player (MVP) Yap, the B-Meg Derby Ace's main offensive weapon, flashed his old fiery form when he led the Llamados to two straight wins that brought them back into third place in the Fiesta Cup standings.

The former UE King Warrior, who is married to Aquino's younger sister Kris, showed no signs of the strenuous effects of joining the campaign sorties of his brother-in-law when he logged in MVP-like numbers in Derby Ace's consecutive victories against Rain or Shine (75-67) and Barangay Ginebra (95-82) to earn the Accel-PBA Press Corps Player of the Week honors.

Yap averaged 18.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.0 assist in Derby Ace's two victories as the Llamados, with their 5-3 win-loss record, placed third behind San Miguel (8-1) and Talk 'N Text (6-2).

The 6-foot-3 swingman scored 20 points behind an 8-of-19 field goal shooting against the Elasto Painters and followed that up with 17 points (6-of-15) in the Llamados' victory over the Kings.

Derby Ace coach Ryan Gregorio said that with the elections over, Yap can now focus his attention and energy in playing.

"It is a relief to see him play his usual game," said Gregorio. "I am impressed with the way he was able to focus amidst all the distractions. He scored well in our last two games and resulted to nice victories against quality opponents."
