Jaworski Next Sports Chief?

(From ABS-CBN News)

Former Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) star Robert “Sonny” Jaworski is reportedly being eyed to replace Harry Angping as the next Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman.

Incoming President Benigno “Noynoy Aquino III reportedly wanted someone in the PSC who can forge a “harmonious relationship” with the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC).

“And he thinks Jaworski is the man," said one source.

The source said Jaworski, a former senator, can certainly work with POC president Jose “Peping” Cojuangco since they are in-laws.

Jawoski’s son, Robert “Dodot” Jaworski Jr., is married to Cojuangco’s daughter, equestrienne Mikee Cojuangco.

"What more can you ask for? Jaworski at the PSC and Cojuangco at the POC being in-laws," said the source.

"Of course, there will be differences in opinions. But this relationship between the two gentlemen would go along the President’s wish," he added.

Current PSC chair Angping, who had clashed with the elder Cojuangco, already tendered his courtesy resignation to Aquino last week.

Angping urged Aquino to immediately appoint the new head of the government sports agency because there will be only 4 months left before the 2010 Asian Games (Asiad) in Guangzhou, China.

He said this short period before the quadrennial Asiad makes the assumption of the new chairman of the PSC very urgent.
