NBA Daily Results

vs(By JAIME ARON From the Associated Press) - In his first game since grumbling about his teammates deferring to him too much, Nowitzki scored 20 points over the first three quarters, then watched Jason Terry and Josh Howard carry the Mavericks the rest of the way in a 106-101 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday. Terry scored 12 of his 23 points in the fourth quarter, and Howard had eight of his 11, to make sure the Mavericks got a split of their four-game homestand. Their contributions were especially important because Nowitzki failed to score in the final period, missing his only two shots…Dallas actually eased the load on Nowitzki the entire game, putting a total of seven players in double figures. The rest of the key contributors: Erick Dampier with 13 points and 10 rebounds, Jason Kidd with 10 points and 10 assists, J.J. Barea with 11 points and Shawn Marion with 10…Randolph finished with 27 points and 14 rebounds, and Rudy Gay had 22 points and 10 rebounds. Smith, who committed to play basketball at Indiana University before skipping college to jump to the pros, finished with 22 points, six rebounds, five blocks and four steals. Joe Johnson added 24 points, including two 3-pointers…Indiana (9-19), which is still missing injured All-Star forward Danny Granger, couldn’t match the Hawks’ inside power. Before the game, coach Jim O’Brien acknowledged the matchup between Roy Hibbert and Horford would be a challenge if Hibbert didn’t move his feet defensively. So after Horford put up 12 points and 11 rebounds in the first half, Hibbert spent all but 39 seconds of the third quarter on the bench.

vs( From the Associated Press) - Reserve Carl Landry scored 26 points to lead the Rockets to a 98-93 victory Saturday night over New Jersey, sending the Nets to their ninth straight loss. But he made just 10 of 28 shots and committed seven turnovers. With rookie point guard Jonny Flynn struggling from the field, Ramon Sessions had 10 points, eight rebounds and five assists in relief for the Timberwolves, providing a huge lift off the bench for a team that lost 17 of its first 19 games. The Wolves beat New Jersey on Wednesday and now are 4-3 in their last seven games, the first tangible signs of progress this year.

Mehmet Okur and Wesley Matthews scored 16 apiece for Utah, which held Philadelphia to just three field goals in the fourth quarter…Thaddeus Young scored 20 for the Sixers, who played much of the game without starting center Samuel Dalembert. Dalembert had three fouls midway through the first quarter and played just 16:24, but still managed to pull down nine rebounds. Elton Brand and Jrue Holiday added 10 points apiece for Philadelphia, which was outrebounded 49-39 and had just 11 assists to Utah’s 24…The Sixers, who lost their third straight and were without Allen Iverson for the fourth consecutive game, hung with Utah through the first three quarters, then fell apart in the fourth.
