NBA Daily Results

vs(By JOSEPH WHITE From the Associated Press) - Washington beat the Portland Trail Blazers 97-92 on Monday, giving the team a two-game winning streak for only the fourth time this season. There was a blowout loss at Cleveland hours after Arenas’ suspension was announced Jan. 6, but since then the Wizards are 3-4 and haven’t dropped a game by more than 12 points. “We’re just trying to find a cure,” said captain Antawn Jamison, who scored 21 of his 28 points in the second half. “And the only cure we can find right now is to win. The more we win, the more we get things going in the right direction, the better this story turns out...Randy Foye added 19 points and Caron Butler had 18 for the Wizards, who made 25 of 28 free throws and shot 52 percent from the field. Those are the kind of numbers Washington needs without Arenas, who was averaging 22.6 points and 7.2 assists...Andre Miller scored 20 of his 22 points in the second half before fouling out with 19 seconds to play, LaMarcus Aldridge also scored 22 points and had a season-high 15 rebounds, and Webster added 18 points for the Trail Blazers, who had a two-game winning streak snapped as they opened a four-game road trip with a game that started at 10 a.m. West Coast time.

vs(By BRIAN MAHONEY From the Associated Press) - Robinson scored 27 points Monday to lead the New York Knicks to a 99-91 victory and a split of a home-and-home series with the Detroit Pistons...Fellow reserve Al Harrington and Wilson Chandler each added 17 points as the Knicks bounced back from consecutive losses, including Saturday’s 94-90 defeat in Detroit, and improved to 18-6 on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Rodney Stuckey scored 22 for the short-handed Pistons, who had their three-game winning streak snapped. They led after three quarters with a gutty effort but simply didn’t have enough firepower with four of their top six scorers out. Already missing Ben Gordon (strained right groin), Tayshaun Prince (sore left knee) and Will Bynum (sprained left ankle), the Pistons were even further weakened when Richard Hamilton came down with an upset stomach...“Listen, I am very proud of my guys. But I thought as hard as we fought, we come back and take the lead, you’ve got to show poise in that situation,” Detroit coach John Kuester said. “I thought we did a great job in the third quarter. We had to go to our bench. We needed our bench to come through in that situation and it didn’t happen.” Ben Wallace scored a season-high 16 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, and Austin Daye and Charlie Villanueva also had 16 points for the Pistons.

vs(By GEORGE HENRY From the Associated Press) - Durant scored 29 points, Green had 15 points and 11 rebounds, and the Thunder ended the Atlanta Hawks’ three-game winning streak with a 94-91 victory Monday. Green’s three-point play made it 94-88 with 12.2 seconds remaining. Dribbling from the top of the right wing, he used his right hand to dunk past Josh Smith’s outstretched arms...Jamal Crawford, who defeated Phoenix with a buzzer-beating, 3-pointer on Friday, missed a straightaway 3 as time expired...Oklahoma City improved to 15-4 against the Eastern Conference. Joe Johnson scored 23 points for Atlanta, which had won five of six. The Hawks shot just 6 for 23 in the fourth quarter, including Crawford’s 0-for-6 performance...Smith, who finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds, but he blamed himself for failing to get better position on Green’s three-point play. “I reached in and he kind of took my balance from me,” Smith said. “I had to contest the shot, but I knew was going to make it because he can palm the basketball extremely well, and he had a step on me.”

vs(By MIKE CRANSTON From the Associated Press) - Larry Brown is an NBA junkie, so when he saw Tyreke Evans getting on a roll late in the third quarter he knew his Charlotte Bobcats could be in trouble, no matter how big their lead was. Brown was right. It took some big plays by Raymond Felton and some fortunate bounces late to prevent another stunning Sacramento Kings comeback in the Bobcats’ 105-103 victory on Monday. It was Charlotte’s fifth straight win and eighth in a row at home. The Bobcats (20-19) are above .500 at the latest point in franchise history and moved into a three-way tie for fifth place in the Eastern Conference with idle Toronto and Miami. Less than a month after Sacramento rallied from 35 points down to win in Chicago, the Kings cut a 24-point third-quarter deficit to one behind their sensational rookie Evans, who scored a career-high 34 points...Gerald Wallace shook off an ankle injury to score 28 points and Felton finished a rebound shy of a triple-double for the Bobcats, who led 82-58 with 4 minutes left in the third quarter...Felton had 17 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds. Stephen Jackson was held to 11 points on 4-of-13 shooting amid foul trouble. The latest Charlotte was above .500 previously in its six seasons was 6-5 in 2007-08...The NBA’s top scoring rookie hit 13 of 20 shots and eight of 11 free throws. But Kevin Martin was held to nine points on 3-of-9 shooting in his third game back from injury as Sacramento lost for the 11th time in 13 games.

vs(By CHRIS DUNCAN From the Associated Press) - Luis Scola scored a season-high 27 points and grabbed 15 rebounds, Aaron Brooks dished out 10 assists to offset poor shooting and the Rockets beat the Milwaukee Bucks 101-98 in overtime Monday. Carl Landry and Chase Budinger scored 12 points apiece for the Rockets, who have won the last 10 meetings with the Bucks in Houston. Brooks went 5 for 21 from the field, including 1 of 7 from 3-point range...“I wish all our games would go into overtime,” Brooks said. “I don’t know what our record is, but it’s pretty good. It’ll be good to win in regulation, but we all feel pretty comfortable in overtime right now.” Brandon Jennings scored 25 points and Andrew Bogut had 18 points and 17 rebounds for the Bucks, who return home after dropping five of six games on a 10-day road trip...The Bucks are 2-4 in overtime this season. “I’m getting tired of the fact that our team just keeps fighting,” said Ridnour, who scored 14 points. “We want to get the win. We fought back in regulation and couldn’t make the shots.”

vs(By JON KRAWCZYNSKI From the Associated Press) - Jonny Flynn had a career-high 29 points and nine assists and the Timberwolves posted their biggest comeback of the season, a 108-103 overtime win over the 76ers on Monday...Al Jefferson added 23 points and 13 rebounds for the Timberwolves, who trailed 51-31 with 3 minutes to go in the first half. But even without Kevin Love in the lineup because of an illness, the Wolves outscored Philly 68-36 the rest of the way and held advantages of 43-39 in rebounds and 22-8 in second-chance points to stun the Sixers...Team president Ed Stefanski recently refused to guarantee Jordan would last the entire season, saying the entire organization needed to be better. The Sixers are 3-3 since that assessment, with losses to the Knicks (16-24), Wizards (13-26) and Timberwolves (9-33) this month. “It’s a old cliche that players win ball games,” said forward Elton Brand, the $80 million man who again was underwhelming with 10 points and seven rebounds in 27 minutes. “He’s doing the best he feels he can do. We don’t just want to win for him, we do want to win for him, we want to win for us, too, and the city. We were right there, and we though we turned the corner. It’s just a disappointing loss.” Andre Iguodala had 17 points, seven rebounds and five assists for the Sixers but missed a jumper at the buzzer that would have given Philadelphia the win in regulation...Willie Green scored 16 points and Allen Iverson had 11 points and nine assists, but did not play at all in overtime for Philadelphia.

vs(By BRETT MARTEL From the Associated Press) - The nagging pain in Tony Parker’s left foot lingers, so he tries to play through it as best he can, with some days better than others. Unfortunately for the Hornets, Parker felt pretty good on Monday, then went out and scored 25 points as the San Antonio Spurs handed New Orleans a rare home loss, 97-90...Parker said his back was stiff two nights ago when he scored only four points on 2-of-8 shooting at Memphis, which was San Antonio’s second straight loss during a four-game road swing that concluded in the Big Easy...Tim Duncan(notes) added 21 points and 14 rebounds for the Spurs, while George Hill scored 16 points and Manu Ginobili had 11. David West scored 18 points for New Orleans, which lost for only the second time in its last 15 home games. Chris Paul, who fouled out in the final minute, had 18 points and nine assists for the Hornets, while Marcus Thornton scored 16 points. “It comes down to us starters. We have to come out with more energy and set the tone,” Paul said. “They really kept us in front of them. They never really let us get to the basket. We didn’t get to the (free throw) line much at all. It’s been the story for us. We’ve got to figure out other ways to win other than just making shots.”

vs(From the Associated Press) - Kaman had 22 points and seven rebounds, and the Clippers snapped a four-game skid with an easy 106-95 victory. The 7-foot center, who missed the previous four games with a sore lower back after being the only Clipper to play in each of the first 35 contests, played 30 minutes and made 10 of 16 shots...The Clippers shot 55.6 percent, improving to 10-4 when they’re at 50 percent or better. Marcus Camby had 17 points and 14 rebounds, and Craig Smith added 18 points off the bench. Point guard Baron Davis had nine points and nine assists before sitting out the fourth quarter...Brook Lopez, the only Nets player to start and play in all 40 games, had 23 points and eight rebounds, and reserve Kris Humphries had a career-high 21 points. Lopez started the day averaging 18.8 points, third in the NBA among centers. Kaman came in averaging 20.4 points...The Nets, a league-worst 3-37, have started a calendar year 0-8 for the first time since 1981 under interim coach Bob MacKinnon. The franchise record in that department is 0-11 under Kevin Loughery in 1977, their first season following the NBA-ABA merger. They also started 1991 with an 0-7 mark.

vs(By JANIE McCAULEY From the Associated Press) - Biedrins grabbed a season-high 19 rebounds to go with a career-best eight blocked shots, Monta Ellis had 36 points on 39 shots, and the short-handed Golden State Warriors snapped a three-game losing streak with a 114-97 victory over the Chicago Bulls. Biedrins returned late last month after missing 25 games with inflammation in his right groin where it attaches to the abdomen...Corey Maggette added 32 points, six rebounds and five assists, and Stephen Curry had 26 points, 10 rebounds and six assists as Golden State ended Chicago’s four-game winning streak. Ellis had eight assists and five rebounds...John Salmons scored 25 points and Luol Deng 20 for cold-shooting Chicago, which kicked off its seven-game road trip without starting guard Kirk Hinrich because of the flu. The Bulls were held to 36.5 percent from the floor...Maggette had his third 30-point game in his last four outings and fifth overall. Ellis shot 14 for 39, going 3 for 9 from long range. Ellis is the first Warriors player to take 39 shots since Rick Barry was 20 for 39 with 42 points on Feb. 22, 1975, against Boston.

vs(From the Associated Press) - The Grizzlies built an 11-point lead with 2:22 left, took a few scoring runs from Phoenix, but held on to extend their franchise-best home winning streak to nine games on Monday with a 125-118 victory over the Suns. “We’re playing to be respected,” said forward Rudy Gay, who led Memphis with 31 points and nine rebounds. “We just want to be respected out there. We didn’t change anything we do. We just went out there and played hard."....Randolph added 27 points and 11 rebounds for Memphis. O.J. Mayo had 28 points and Marc Gasol 19 points.
Six Suns were in double figures led by Steve Nash with 22 points and 12 assists. Robin Lopez had a career-high 19 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the field, and Grant Hill scored 16. Leandro Barbosa finished with 14, and Amare Stoudemire added 12 points and nine rebounds. Louis Amundson had 10 points for the Suns, who dropped their fourth straight...While Memphis is playing well at home, the Suns are struggling on the road. The loss was the fourth straight, all on the road for Phoenix, which has lost 11 of its last 12 away from home. “I’ve never been on a bad road team, so it’s strange for me. I don’t know what it is,” Nash said.

vs(By JIMMY GOLEN From the Associated Press) - Nowitzki scored 37 points on Monday night to lead Dallas to a 99-90 victory over the Boston Celtics, scoring nine in a row during a third-quarter run that gave the Mavericks the lead for good. Nowitzki scored 15 of 19 Dallas points after Wallace committed his fourth foul and went to the bench with 3:56 left in the third quarter...Jason Kidd scored 13 points and added 17 assists for the Mavericks, who had lost three of their previous four games, including a 22-point loss at Toronto on Sunday...Paul Pierce scored 24 points, Ray Allen scored 21, Kendrick Perkins had 14 points and 12 rebounds and Rajon Rondo had 12 assists for Boston, which has lost three straight at home. The Celtics have lost four of their last six overall, and they are 4-7 since beating the defending Eastern Conference champion Magic in Orlando on Christmas Day. The Celtics were again without Garnett, who has missed the past nine games with a hyperextended right knee. But they got Wallace back after he missed three games with a sore left foot. Pierce, who banged knees with Shelden Williams in practice, started and played 35 minutes. “We’ve been there before. We’ve won games without Kevin,” Pierce said. “That’s not an excuse. We feel like we should win in our building.”

vs(By GREG BEACHAM From the Associated Press) - Brown scored a career-high 22 points, Pau Gasol had 17 points and 10 rebounds, and Los Angeles scored the first 15 points of the fourth quarter Monday night for a 98-92 victory in the first rematch of last season’s NBA finals. The Lakers (32-9) reached the midway point of the regular season and sent themselves off on an eight-game road trip with a late surge that showed exactly what they can do without much help from Bryant. Although the superstar scored just 11 points on 4-of-19 shooting after taking a hard hit on his broken finger early on, his teammates led Los Angeles to its 18th win in 19 home games...Farmar scored 11 points and Odom had nine points and 16 rebounds for the Lakers, who trounced the Magic in five games in the finals last summer. While Los Angeles appears to be a clear title contender, Orlando’s future is murkier after seven losses in nine games...Howard had 24 points—but just one field goal after halftime—and 12 rebounds for the Magic, who wrapped up a four-game road trip with their third straight defeat. The way Orlando lost was even more disconcerting, with a wildly up-and-down performance that bottomed out in the fourth, when the Magic didn’t manage a field goal for nearly six minutes.
