NBA Daily Results

vs(From the Associated Press) - Allen Iverson expected the Philadelphia 76ers to own the kind of killer instinct that can finish off teams for good once they build a double-digit lead. Because they don’t consistently have one, sub. 500-teams such as Indiana can rally and finish off the Sixers at home. Danny Granger scored 26 points and Dahntay Jones had 18 points to lead the Pacers to a 109-98 win over the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday night...Brandon Rush scored 16 points, and Troy Murphy had 11 points and 12 rebounds for the Pacers. “It’s hard to beat a team twice,” Granger said. Andre Iguodala scored 22 points and Iverson had 20 for the Sixers. Philadelphia failed in its bid to win three straight games for the first time this season. “We do a lot of things positive on the basketball court, we’re just not putting together whole games,” Iverson said. “That’s the frustrating part, because a game like this, we’re supposed to win.”

vs(From the Associated Press) - LeBron James and Dwyane Wade walked off the court at halftime, smiling toward each other after an epic performance worthy of superstars. At game’s end, only James left happy. James hit two free throws after a scary tumble and blow to the head with 4.1 seconds left for the winning points, and Wade missed a jumper over the reigning MVP’s outstretched arm at the buzzer as the Eastern Conference-leading Cleveland Cavaliers beat the Miami Heat 92-91 on Monday night. “It came down to one possession,” said James, who matched Wade with a game-high 32 points. “Whoever got the last stop was going to win the game. Luckily it was us.”...Shaquille O’Neal scored 19, Daniel Gibson(notes) had 15 and Anderson Varejao finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds for Cleveland. Wade had 10 rebounds and five assists for Miami. Jermaine O’Neal finished with 18 points, Michael Beasley had 16 and Rafer Alston and Udonis Haslem each scored 10 for the Heat.

vs(From the Associated Press) - Kevin Garnett’s second game back had Boston coach Doc Rivers concerned for an unexpected reason. Paul Pierce scored 22 points and Rajon Rondo had 16 points and 12 assists, leading the Celtics to a 95-89 win over the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday night in a game played on a TD Garden floor that had to be continually wiped because of condensation. “The first seven, eight minutes I didn’t think we were going to even finish the game,” Rivers said. “I was nervous, though. I really was.”...Rivers and Los Angeles coach Mike Dunleavy spoke about the conditions early in the game. “Mike and I came together, if anybody else slipped in the next two minutes the game was going to be canceled,” Rivers said. “We, at that point, were very close. Mike said the same thing, `We can’t afford to get a guy injured on this floor.”’...Garnett played 30 minutes and scored 17 points, while being the center of the defense...Ray Allen added 15 points for the Celtics, who lost to the Clippers 92-90 in Los Angeles on Dec. 27 when Baron Davis hit a fallaway jumper at the buzzer. Rasual Butler led the Clippers with 17 points and Davis scored 16 on just 5 of 13 shooting. Craig Smith scored 11 of his 13 in the final quarter for Los Angeles.

vs(From the Associated Press) - Josh Smith scored 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and the Hawks beat the Rockets 102-95 on Monday night...Joe Johnson scored 20 points and Jamal Crawford added 17 as the Hawks won in Houston for the first time since Feb. 25, 1999. Atlanta won at the Toyota Center for the first time in seven visits, after Smith said Woodson set the perfect tone...Aaron Brooks scored 15 points and had five assists and Carl Landry added 16 points for the Rockets. Houston has lost seven of 11, including three of its past four home games. The Rockets have three home games left this week, all against teams with winning records—Denver, Portland and Phoenix...The Hawks took control with a 21-3 spurt in the second quarter. Houston missed 11 of its last 12 shots before halftime and trailed 55-44 at the break. “We just broke down,” Landry said. “Every team in the NBA has times during the game where the opposing team goes on the run. They went on a run and we were really not able to bounce back after that.”

vs(From the Associated Press) - When the last chance for the San Antonio Spurs came up short, Joakim Noah grabbed the rebound and punctuated a third straight win with a triumphant roar. Meet the new Chicago Bulls: unlikely road warriors. Derrick Rose overcame feeling ill to score 27 points, including 11 in the fourth quarter, and the Bulls impressively beat another winning Western Conference team during their seven-game road swing with a 98-93 victory over the Spurs on Monday night...San Antonio lost its third straight at home, already squandering half of its six-game homestand before hitting the road for virtually the entire month of February. The Spurs have traditionally used their annual “Rodeo Road Trip” to work out the kinks—and at this rate, there is plenty to fix. Tony Parker scored 20 points for the Spurs, who have lost five of six. “We have a team that can win games, especially like the one tonight, but we just need to find way to get it done,” Spurs forward Tim Duncan said. “Defensively we aren’t as good as we want to be.”...Kirk Hinrich added 18 points for the Bulls, and Noah had 11 after missing Saturday’s win over the Rockets with plantar fascitis...Duncan scored 15 points and Antonio McDyess had 14 for the Spurs. Manu Ginobili also scored 14 but was denied twice while barreling to the rim in the final 33 seconds...“Manu’s last two plays,” Spurs guard Roger Mason Jr. said, “we’ll take any day of the week from him.”

vs(From the Associated Press) - The Jazz scored the final 12 points of the third quarter, then dominated the fourth in a 124-115 win over the Phoenix Suns on Monday, continuing Utah’s run up the Western Conference standings...Carlos Boozer finished with 21 points and 20 rebounds and rookie Wesley Matthews scored 10 of his career-high 21 points in the fourth quarter as the Utah Jazz rallied for their eighth win in 10 games. Andrei Kirilenko had 25 points, six rebounds and three blocks and Deron Williams finished with 18 points and 11 assists for Utah. Mehmet Okur and Paul Millsap had 12 points apiece for the Jazz...Steve Nash had 15 points and 15 assists, giving him 8,013 in his career and making him the eighth player in NBA history to surpass 8,000 assists. Goran Dragic scored a career high for the second straight game with 32 and Channing Frye added 21 points for Phoenix, which made 17 of 30 from beyond the 3-point arc...“We were up 17. We’ve got to be able to maintain that,” Phoenix coach Alvin Gentry said.

vs(From the Associated Press) - Shaking off injuries and an ejection, the Denver Nuggets leaned on Chauncey Billups and two role players for a rousing victory. “I’m a big believer that injuries can be positive,” Denver coach George Karl said after Monday night’s 104-93 win over the Charlotte Bobcats. “It was fun coaching the game. We had a play-hard intensity to us that we need every night. Some guys that haven’t played gave us that. That’s a compliment to them.” Stephen Jackson had 22 points and Gerald Wallace added 20 for the Bobcats, who lost their third in a row since a franchise-tying six-game winning streak. Picking up the offensive slack in the absence of leading scorer Carmelo Anthony (ankle), Billups scored 27 points and Aaron Afflalo matched a career high with 24 points in Denver’s season-high seventh straight win. The Nuggets also lost forward Kenyon Martin to an ejection late in the second quarter when he argued with officials over a foul call against teammate J.R. Smith. Early in the fourth, Chris Andersen got his feet tangled underneath the basket and crashed to the floor with a sprained ankle. The injury knocked him out for the rest of the game. Andersen is day to day. But the Nuggets got 13 points from Joey Graham, making a rare start in place of the injured Anthony, and little used Malik Allen brought tough defensive play and rebounding in 20 minutes on the floor in place of Martin and Andersen. Nene chipped in with 17 points and Smith, who drew management’s ire by sulking on the bench last Saturday against New Orleans, contributed 12 points.

vs(From the Associated Press) - ust another night for Chris Paul and the New Orleans Hornets. The Hornets outscored the Blazers 10-1 during the game’s final 3:06...Portland’s Andre Miller gave the Blazers their last lead by hitting one of two foul shots with 1:42 left, but both teams went scoreless until Paul hit the game winner. Paul, who had fallen near the free throw line, thought teammate David West would take the shot. Instead, West, who was double teamed, passed to a wide-open Paul, and he buried the uncontested shot...Earlier in the day, New Orleans got a bit of a facelift when the Hornets traded shooting guard Devin Brown to the Chicago Bulls for backup 7-foot center Aaron Gray...Bower said that by trading Brown, the Hornets are able to give rookie guards Collison and Marcus Thornton increased playing time. In his first start of the season, Thornton hit 8 of 12 shots and scored 19 points in 38 minutes...Also scoring in double digits for New Orleans were West with 18 points, and Emeka Okefor with 14. For Portland, Juwan Howard and LaMarcus Aldridge shared scoring honors with 16 points. Howard’s 16 tied a season high. Martell Webster hit four 3-pointers and scored 14 points, while Jerryd Bayless and Rudy Fernandez had 12 points each...“This is tough to lose a game like this, especially on your floor,” Portland coach Nate McMillan said.
