SMB Launches 4th Quarter Surge To Dispose Barako

(From PBA Online)

San Miguel Beer needed a torrid 4th quarter surge to silence Barako Coffee, 106-82, for its third win in the KFC-PBA Fiesta Conference Friday night at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.

After being held to just 14 in the third period, the Beermen unloaded 37 in the last 12 minutes to turn a close contest into a rout and join Coca-Cola at the top of the team standings with 3-1slate.

Dondon Hontiveros led San Miguel with 20 points, 14 came in the first half, while Gabe Freeman added 17 and 13 rebounds for the defending champion.

Anthony Washington chipped in 16 markers for the squad of coach Siot Tanquingcen, who was far from satisfied in the performance of his players despite the win.

"We can't play defense. Marami kaming foul shots na ibinigay especially in the second quarter where we gave 17 attempts. I told the players to play defense with your feet not with your hands," said Tanquingcen.

"That's something we have to improve on."

Alex Cabagnot contributed 13 points and 6 assist while Dorian Pena had 11 for the heavily-favored Beermen.

Sammy Monroe led the Coffee Masters with 25 points, 15 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals and 3 blocks but the lack of local support took the toll on the team, which absorbed its fourth straight defeat against a win. - www.abs-cbnnews.com
