A Random Thought That's Only Kind of About Basketball

Why is it considered more of a thriller when a bad team takes a good team to overtime but ultimately loses than when a bad team beats a good one? Does nobody find it thrilling to cheer for the underdog anymore? Isn't it more exciting to witness the unlikely outcome than it is to watch the likely outcome happen despite a scare that it might not happen? Or maybe people prefer to identify with the heroes who, in spite of some stumbling blocks, come out on top, just like they're supposed to.

And we wonder why so many movies have predictable endings.
